Safe Babies Safe Moms

 

A program assisting women and their children to become healthy, safe and self-sufficient

 

 

 

SBSM Offers:

 

  • Intensive case management for pregnant or parenting women until their child reaches 3 years.
  • Outreach to women who are contemplating substance abuse treatment but not yet ready to engage in services.
  • Provide services for women who are active in their recovery
  • Experienced staff, including public health nurses, case managers, and a mental health counselor
  • Government funding to assist with obtaining services.

 

Services:

 

Safe Babies Safe Moms has resources available and can make coordinated referrals to other services in the community. Types of services we offer are:

 

  • Individual counseling
  • Parent education, using the “Becoming a Love and Logic Parent” Curriculum
  • Child development assessments using ASQ or ASQ-SE and NCAST screening tools; we also screen moms with the Parent Stress Index and the Edinburgh Depression Scale
  • Assist in obtaining a chemical dependency assessment and provide support for the client while participating in outpatient substance abuse treatment.
  • Provide support groups, that are workfirst eligible, facilitated by a case manager
  • Case managers available to work with women at least 6 hours each month until their child reaches 3 years of age

 

 

Program Eligibility

 

In order to qualify for the SBSM program, women must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Pregnant and/or parenting a child under 3 years of age.
  • Drug or Alcohol use anytime during pregnancy or with in the last 90days.
  • If client is not using substances, she may be eligible if there is a significant risk of using as determined by a professional.
  • Residing in either Benton or Franklin County.
  • Medicaid eligible.

 

Women who do not qualify for the SBSM program or who choose not to participate will be referred to other services.
