Tetanus
Adults should receive a Tetanus Td booster every 10 years or after an injury more than 5 years after their last booster. The
tetanus organism is widely distributed in soil and street dust and in the manure of horses, cattle, dogs, cats, chickens, sheep,
rats and guinea pigs. Therefore, manure-treated soil may be very infectious. The organism enters the human body through
puncture wounds or scratches.
Flu
Adults should also consider receiving a Flu Shot every year to reduce winter illness and lost time from work. The
Pneumococcal Vaccine is recommended for adults with chronic illnesses, including heart disease, lung disease, diabetes,
alcoholism, or for anyone over the age of 65. Those over 65 need only one shot for the rest of their lives, although those with
chronic illness may want to consider revaccination after 5-10 years after consulting their physician.
