The Benton Franklin Feeding Team
An intra-agency community based team
providing interdisciplinary team feeding evaluations of special needs infants and young children.
WHAT IS THE "FEEDING TEAM"?
The Feeding Team provides comprehensive evaluations of children whose feeding and nutrition pose concerns to parents or caregivers. An interdisciplinary health care team assesses oral-motor developement, nutritional status, and eating behaviors. Then, working closely with parents or other caregivers, the team develops plans for referral or intervention. Because feeding is such an intergral part of daily life, parents and caregivers are involved in all aspects of assessment and planning. The feeding team is committed to working with commuity professionals who may already be involved with the child and family.
WHOM DOES THE "FEEDING TEAM" SERVE?
Infants and young children who have one or more of the following concerns:
-Children whose parents or caregivers are significantly concerned about nutrition, feeding skills, and/or mealtime behaviors.
-Children who are not growing adequately or whose parents are concerned about the adequacy of their diet.
-Children with delayed feeding skills such as inadequate use of utensils, or difficulty in chewing textured foods.
-Children with problematic feeding behaviors including:
-significant distractibility during mealtimes
-unclear hunger and appetite signals
-disruptive feeding behaviors such as throwing food or gorging
