Welcome to the Food Safety Program Homepage

We work with local food businesses, state and federal government regulators, and our community to reduce the rate of foodborne illness in our region.

We also provide education to reduce the risk of illness and injury from poisons, animal-borne diseases, and other unsafe conditions in our environment.

In our program, we aim to:

  • prevent illness in our residents and visitors
  • promote healthy lifestyles
  • protect our environment to protect our health

In 2008, we:

  • Permitted 1228 eating facilities and schools.
  • Issued 899 temporary food establishments.
  • conducted 2817 restaurant inspections
  • conducted 1003 inspections at temporary facilities
  • investigated 164 facility and foodborne illness complaints.
  • held 340 food safety training classes.
  • Issued 9048 food worker cards.
  • provided 151 free Environmental Health-related classes to our community
